I am so excited to have all of you in the class.
Please see the At Home activities and Foundation of Learning below for your weekly at home activity this week
Object Permanence
Playing hiding games with a baby highlights the concept of object permanence. When a baby gains a full understanding of object permanence, she knows that things and people exist even when they are out of sight.
Object permanence develops gradually over the first eighteen months of a baby’s life. If you notice a surprised look on the face of a baby when she sees your face reappear after disappearing, or if the baby searches for your face when you hide it, you are being offered a fascinating glimpse into her day-by-day achievements in cognitive development!
Language Development
Label, label, label! Your child’s receptive language develops before her expressive language: she will learn to understand many words before she learns to speak. Be sure you talk to her lots, and label things—movements, objects, feelings, colors, everything—as you talk. Before you know it, she will be babbling away, and then uttering single words, and then…speaking in paragraphs!
This week at home:- Please read: Communication with your babies
- Please play peekaboo with your child like we did in class.
- Make sure you LABEL LABEL your movements at home.... Explore or think about at least 2 movements that are new to your babies... (We are going to share about it in class!)
Scaffolding: this is the back-and forth interactive learning that takes place so often with parent and child, it begins when you take note of something your child does or says and then build on it. Three simple instructions: observe, copy , vary with a challenge
We often do scaffolding in the class. When some of the children shook their eggs this morning, I saw a girl who was shaking in a circle. I affirmed her 'good job shaking your eggs in a circle." THEN BUILD, " can you make a big and small circle?"
This week at home:
- Please find 2 opportunities to apply "scaffolding" with your child.
- If you get to visit the zoo this week, make sure you visit the elephant, lion and the monkey.
- Please find 2 stuff animals at home that you can sing "the morning song"
They always say good day
When.... gets up in the morning.
They always say good day
